the saturday morning band had its performance debut last night on scapegoat television, a local cable access program. (last night was also the first episode of the scapegoat television program.) scapegoat tv is a local news and culture program, which attempts to present the cultural heritage of san diego.

sparky's, my neighborhood tavern, hosted a reception, which featured the show's producer/director, jack ethan salsitz, and member of saturday morning band.

the show and the band's performance were well-received by the locals assembled at the pub. laughter was evident during the show's funnier moments. i heard many complements regarding our band's performance, and my bass playing (if i may say so myself).

i can't seem to get enough of paul westerberg these days. to be more specific, his 1999 "suicaine gratificaiton" has completely floored me. i heard it for the first time this week and it's absolutely sublime.

paul westerberg - suicaine gratification

my favorite songs are the best thing that never happened, it's a wonderful lie, about 80% of the album are beautiful songs worthy of you spending time, if you have not already.

broadbandthis from an article at nytimes.com:
The Yankee Group has reported a number of differences between dial-up and broadband users: 47 percent of young unmarried people have broadband, compared with 30 percent of young married couples. It found that broadband has the highest penetration among upper-middle-class households, suggesting that price remains a factor in decisions to get high-speed connections.

the nytimes.com had this interesting quote by jack straw, british foreign minister:
"It is plainly the fact today that there are larger numbers of people, and they are people on the ground, Iraqis, not foreign fighters, who are engaged in this insurgency." The lid of the pressure cooker has come off, and some of the tensions and pressures which were there and would have come out in any event have to a degree been directed toward the coalition."
the street translation of that is: there are a whole bunch of mad, pissed-off people and they're pissed at us.

insurgency, as defined by merriam-webster online, is "a condition of revolt against a government that is less than an organized revolution and that is not recognized as belligerency."

newspaper articles i've read have been using insurgency often to describe the sunni and shite fighters in iraq.

insurgency is one of those words that when they are used (e.g. news articles), it's usually used for a relatively extended period of time. it's not the type of word that often implies a real short life cycle.

john mccainrepublican sen. john mccain of arizona as vice-president in a kerry administration. hmmm....

mccain, in a boston interview, said the republican party had gone "astray" on certain issues, and that the democratic party is a "fine party."

stranger things have happened.
