Robert Pollard, in my opinion the greatest rock songwriter living today, was featured in a NY Times article for his music contributions to the new movie "Bubble."

Bob, as many of his friends and long-time fans call him, has been in the news a lot lately. He's released his first solo, post Guided by Voices album last Tuesday. It's an ambitious effort--a double album. robertpollard.net has a free download, a full version of one of the songs on the album. (hint: get it!)

The way the Bush administration tried to thwart Oregon's assisted suicide law--attempting to make it an illegal practice by enforcing the Controlled Substances Act--was wrong, according to the highest court in the land today. When the Supreme Court decided that the Attorney General of the U.S. was wrong, and had no authority to stop assisted suicides in Oregon, it was a watershed moment for this administration and how its been interpreting laws since Sept. 11, 2001. There are many other cases that deserve to be heard in the courts--like NSA domestic spying--which will prove how much of the dark side the Bush administration is on when it comes to interpreting statues.

The current main justification of today for the war in Iraq is that Sadaam was a very bad leader who killed his citizens/enemies with impunity. Well, now that the Bush administration knows Oregon is systematically killing its innocents (so to speak), will our government attack Oregon unilaterally?

Reuters reported that Al Gore thinks the government domestic spying row needs a special counsel to look into who knows what, when:

"A special counsel should be immediately appointed by the attorney general to remedy the obvious conflict of interest that prevents him from investigating what many believe are serious violations of law by the president," Gore said in a speech to The American Constitution Society and The Liberty Coalition.
I can't imagine, outside a very, very unusual turn of event in which Att. Gen. Gonzalez loses his mind, that a special counsel will be appointed. There isn't enough pressure from Republicans or Democrats to investigate this administration.

Despite all the evidence that shows Samuel Alito is anti-abortion, supports unbridled executive authority, and is pro-Corporate America, he will be confirmed by the Senate.
