Steve Kilbey of the Church in 1981

The Church are a great band out of Australia who have been making great music for 20 plus years. One of their best records is The Blurred Crusade, which features the song "Almost With You." AWY has one of the best guitar solos ever.

Freddy Fender, 1937-2006

Freddy Fender died on Saturday night at his home in Texas.

I fondly remember two of Freddy's songs-Wasted Days and Wasted Night and Before the Next Teardrop Falls. My mom played those songs over and over again in the mid-1970's, when the family lived in Rantoul, Illinois. I still to this day like those two songs.

Freddy was born in Texas to parents of migrant workers. He modeled his music after the songs of Fats Domino and Jackie Wilson, to name two. He served time in the military and served time in prison on a marijuana charge. Freddy died of lung cancer.
